Description: Science and technology affect nearly every aspect of our lives, yet many of us don't know enough about these topics to be able to talk with each other, form opinions or participate in decision-making either personally or at a governmental level. Beyond Fact, a partnership between Multnomah County Library and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, presents a new series of book discussion groups led by OMSI educators and scientists designed to inform, engage and enlighten participants in four different science themes.

Read "Wonderful Life: The Burgess Shale and the Nature of History" by Stephen Jay Gould. The Burgess Shale, a small quarry in the mountains of British Columbia, opened a window on the first multicellular animals. Gould, eminent life-historian and author, introduces us to the creatures of Burgess Shale and to those who have painstakingly examined them.

Pick up a copy of the book at the reference desk after you register.

Beyond Fact is made possible through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
