Description:
|
Science and technology affect nearly every aspect of our lives, yet many of us don't know enough about these topics to be able to talk with each other, form opinions or participate in decision-making either personally or at a governmental level. Beyond Fact, a partnership between Multnomah County Library and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, presents a new series of book discussion groups led by OMSI educators and scientists designed to inform, engage and enlighten participants in four different science themes.
Read "Light at the Edge of the World: A Journey Through the Realm of Vanishing Cultures" by Wade Davis. Davis makes a case for a connection between biodiversity and cultural diversity, and posits that the environmental destruction and globalization that are decimating indigenous cultures is depriving future generations of their valuable knowledge, wisdom, and unique perspectives.
Pick up a copy of the book at the St. Johns Library after you register.
Beyond Fact is made possible through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
